2.1.4.2 Roll padded resilient spring. The resilient padded roll is to be m covered with padding and underpadding at the time of installation. The ironer shall be equipped with an interrupting device that reduces chest and roll contact by 30 percent when the machine is interrupted for any reason while it is in operation. When flatwork is resumed, the contact pressure shall automatically return to full.
2.1.5 Safety guard. The ironer shall have a safety guard installed across the entire length of the feed–end. The guard shall deactivate the drive mechanism when it is pushed and at the same time reduce the roll/chest pressure immediately before an operator’s hand could reach the chest.
Emergency stop buttons shall be installed at both the feed and discharge ends of the ironer.
2.2 Ironer operation. The ironer shall finish and dry not less than 1300 pounds per hour of 100 percent cotton flatwork at 50 percent moisture content. The ironer shall finish and dry not less than 2100 pounds per hour of blended fabric at 35 percent moisture content. The oil inlet temperature shall range from 430O to 450OF.
2.3 Workmanship. The completely fabricated item shall be free from defects such as fractures, splits, punctures, tears, dents, creases, miscasts, deteriorations or malformations. There shall be no sharp edges, burrs or slivers.
3. Quality assurance. The contractor is responsible for assuring that the items furnished to the Government conform to all requirements specified in referenced documents and herein. The contractor shall furnish a certificate of compliance certifying that the items being furnished comply with the stated requirements. The Government reserves the right to inspect the items to verify the certification and may reject any item or lot of items when it is determined that:
a. Any required component or design characteristic is missing or not as specified herein.
b. Any aspects of design, construction, assembly, function or finish is not in accordance with good commercial practice.
c. Packaging, packing and marking is not as specified.
4. PACKAGING
4.1 Packaging. Ironers shall be cleaned and preserved in accordance with method III of MIL-P-116.
4.2 Packing. Ironers, packaged as specified, and any additional rollers shall be packed in wood crates conforming to type 1, style A of MIL-C-3774.
