3.3.5.2 Metal. All metal surfaces, except aluminum angles and the heads of carriage bolts, shall
be prepared for painting according to type I or II of TT-C-490, and shall be coated with enamel
specified in 3.2.4.
3.4 Marking for identification. Marking for identification of the tables shall be on the underside of
the top and shall be in accordance with the requirements of MIL-STD-130.
3.5 Workmanship. Tables shall be free from defects such as fractures, splits, punctures, or dents.
There shall be no sharp edges, slivers, burrs, or projections.
3.5.1 Application of finish, The finish applied to the end item shall be continuous, smooth,
adherent without discoloration or foreign material imbedded and contains no sags, runs, drips,
creeps, laps, bubbles, streaks, wrinkles, blisters, cracks, scratches, pores, pits, lumps, flux, or
orange peel. No rust, rough grinds or tool marks shall show through the coating.
3.5.2 Welding. All surfaces of parts to be welded shall be clean. Welding shall be accomplished
in a manner which will prevent the occurrence of burn holes, cracks, fractures or incomplete fusion.
All scale and flux deposits shall be removed from finished welds.
3.5.3 Bolts, nuts, screws, studs, and other threaded fasteners. Threaded fasteners shall not be
broken, stripped, fractured, or loose.
4. VERIFICATION
4.1 Classification of inspections. The inspection requirements specified herein are classified as
follows:
a. First article inspection (see 4.2)
b. Conformance inspection (see 4.3)
4.2 First article inspection. When a first article is required, it shall be examined for defects listed
in table II and specified dimensions. The presence of any visual defect, any dimension not within
specified requirements, shall be cause for rejection of the first article.
4.3 Conformance inspection. Sampling for conformance inspection shall be performed in
accordance with ASQ Z1.4, except where otherwise indicated hereinafter. Unless otherwise
specified, the Acceptable Quality Limits (AQLs) listed in this section shall be used to establish the
sample sizes, however, the acceptance number shall be zero.
4.3.1 Inspection of materials and components. In accordance with 4.1 above, components and
materials shall be inspected and tested in accordance with all the requirements of referenced
specifications, drawings and standards unless otherwise excluded, amended, modified or qualified
in this specification, or applicable purchase document.
4.3.2 In-process inspection. Examination shall be made during the manufacturing for the
requirements specified in table I to establish that no deviation is made from the indicated
requirements. When nonconformance is noted, correction shall be made to affected items in
process.
